PPP (Public Policy Polling) has a new poll out for the South Carolina Presidential race.
Long story short; John McCain hold a noteworthy lead, but it isn't anything special. He is leading 45-39, with a margin of error of 4.2%. I still think that South Carolina is a McCain lock but McCain can't take it easy. His low polling numbers indicate that the hard core right wing that is so well represented in the population of South Carolina are still not strongly behind him.
With Obama placing paid staff in state and if the youthful enthusiasm can be fully tapped, there is an outside chance that South Carolina will at least be competitive. Mix in a big effort by Barr sucking away some of McCains votes and there is an outside chance, maybe 1 in 10, that South Carolina could turn purple.
This is just another indicator that the damage that Bush has done to the Republican brand can not be underestimated.
