They Lie Like Rugs

Since the moment that the Discovery Institute lost its Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District case ( the lawsuit that beat back the efforts to force a scientific lie onto the children of the Dover area ) the fine folks behind the effort to sell Intelligent Design to the schools of the United States have been trying to spin their defeat as the result of anything but it's base cause; The idea they are trying to sell (Intelligent Design) is a silly fantasy with no scientific basis.

Their most current effort has been an attack on one of the expert witnesses. As is the normal case when dealing with these people, the attack is BS and is quickly debunked.

The scientific reality, of course, is entirely different. First, there’s a perfectly good reason why I compared the clotting treatment in Pandas to Darwin’s Black Box (DBB). They are indeed nearly identical, and that’s because Behe himself wrote both of them. Second, Behe actually did state that the entire pathway is irreducibly complex in DBB. Casey might have skipped over those pages, but I didn’t. Third, as a result, the absence of any components of the cascade in any organism is indeed a direct contradiction of Behe’s formulation of ID. And finally, even Luskin’s “irreducible core” has fallen apart as the result of the most recent research findings on the system.

Casey seems to forget — or to ignore — the fact that Behe has never even attempted to do any scientific research to show that he is right. He ignores the fact that ID’s critics have produced a boatload of research showing Behe to be wrong while Behe himself has done no research on the system that might support Luskin. As a result, his attempts at rehabilitating the clotting cascade as an “icon” of ID are a complete failure. So, for the umpteenth time, let’s go through this again

Of course while this is a regular lie told by the right and it is getting a lot of attention this cycle, even getting repeated by Palin and McCain, it is just one of the many lies and smears getting a lot of play.

Last night, on the late news, WLTX reported (with some energy and hopefulness in my opinion) the amazing fact that in a national poll, McCain had already closed to within 2 points.

Well since I do follow the polls, I knew the story was fact deficient, but it was only after lunch that I saw that Drudge was using the same biased and dishonest reporting tactic.

That nasty ol' liberal media is at it again.

PS with 2+ weeks in the race I do expect quite a bit of tightening in the national polls, but it was gross malpractice to select 1 of Gallops multiple polls and present it as definitive.

Where McCain's Champaign Is Taking Us

We had the chance to see how some of McCain's followers are responding to his rhetoric, it is less than appealing.

Well, it seems as McCain and Palin's lies and smears become more overt the reaction from his followers are becoming more racist and disgusting.

Palin's routine attacks on the media have begun to spill into ugliness. In Clearwater, arriving reporters were greeted with shouts and taunts by the crowd of about 3,000. Palin then went on to blame Katie Couric's questions for her "less-than-successful interview with kinda mainstream media." At that, Palin supporters turned on reporters in the press area, waving thunder sticks and shouting abuse. Others hurled obscenities at a camera crew. One Palin supporter shouted a racial epithet at an African American sound man for a network and told him, "Sit down, boy."

And that is not all, we are also hearing threats of violence. The followers of McCain and Palin are beginning to look like out of control lynch mobs shouting for blood. In addition to the racial taunts at yesterdays events shouts of "kill him" and "terrorist" erupted when Obama is mentioned.

The reception had been better in Clearwater, where Palin, speaking to a sea of "Palin Power" and "Sarahcuda" T-shirts, tried to link Obama to the 1960s Weather Underground. "One of his earliest supporters is a man named Bill Ayers," she said. ("Boooo!" said the crowd.) "And, according to the New York Times, he was a domestic terrorist and part of a group that, quote, 'launched a campaign of bombings that would target the Pentagon and our U.S. Capitol,' " she continued. ("Boooo!" the crowd repeated.)

"Kill him!" proposed one man in the audience.

Palin also told those gathered that Obama doesn't like American soldiers. "He said that our troops in Afghanistan are just, quote, 'air-raiding villages and killing civilians,' " she said, drawing boos from a crowd that had not been told Obama was actually appealing for more troops in Afghanistan.

Palin's lies are assuring a degree of partisanship that has never before been seen in DC will exist there, no matter who wins.

But she is not the only one who is bringing the hate out. At a McCain event we got this:

after john McCain delivered the central question of his speech today -- "who is the real barack obama?" -- the first, and loudest, supporter seems to yell:

"terrorist!"

As I said before, what a vile batch of people the republican ticket attracts, Racist, Liars, and want to be murderers.

McCain Surrenders To Obama

On the issues at least.

With his numbers in the polls tanking, his choice as VP making a fool of herself anytime she is not in uber-friendly enviroments and the Republican economic model now proven to be useless, the McCain camp has called it quits.

No, I am not talking about his retreat in Michigan,

"I don't know what McCain was thinking," fumed Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, a leading state Republican. "He's a general who left the battlefield in the middle of the fight.

"I'm disappointed in his behavior; he's thrown a lot of good Republican candidates under the bus."

but his champaigns decison to retreat from the issues and turn to lies smears and distortion for the rest of the election season: McCains camp has decided to go negitive and go negative hard.

The McCain campaign has now shifted virtually 100 percent of his national ad spending into negative ads attacking Obama, a detailed breakdown of his ad buys reveals.

By contrast, the Obama campaign is devoting less than half of its overall ad spending to ads attacking McCain. More than half of its spending is going to a spot that doesn't once mention his foe.

The plan involved more than just advertising. This attack by lie will involve everyone. Palin was in on this early with gross distortions of Obama's realtionship with Professor Bill Ayers of the University of Chicago.

the two men do not appear to have been close. Nor has Mr. Obama ever expressed sympathy for the radical views and actions of Mr. Ayers.”

This is silly on it's surface, but becomes absurd when you look into the background of who is attacking. Palin is attacking Obama for occasional contact with a person who was a radical 40+ years ago while she sleeps with a person untill a couple of years ago subscribed to viltrolic anti-American rherotic.

"The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government," Vogler said in the interview, in which he talked extensively about his desire for Alaskan secession, the key goal of the AIP.

"And I won't be buried under their damn flag,"

As you move further down the feeding chain of the McCain camp you see even all the way down to the county level they are ready willing and able to use the traditionl Republican tools of racism and lies to attack Obama.

A local newspaper columnist, in a spoof of Obama’s platform, wrote in one recent piece that the Democrat would hire the rapper Ludacris to paint the White House black (a reference to a pro-Obama song by Ludacris), and divert more foreign aid to Africa so "the Obama family there can skim enough to allow them to free their goats and live the American Dream."

This lying Ass is treasurer of the Buchanan County Republican Party and a memner of McCain's Virginia leadership team. After this I suspect a promotion will be in the works.

Another typical Republican action; When the facts are working against you lie and attack about a false issue and with 4 weeks to go, we all know it is going to get much much uglier.

John McCain's Crew Will Lie About Anything

In the last two weeks we have seen the serial dishonesty of Sarah Palin and John McCain as they have spouted lie after lie about Palin's political history. Even when confronted with clear evidence, sometime with video tape of Palin's own words and actions, they continued to lie.

And now we see more evidence of the dishonesty of John McCain and his followers.

Senator John McCain has drawn some of the biggest crowds of his presidential campaign since adding Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to his ticket on Aug. 29. Now officials say they can't substantiate the figures McCain's aides are claiming.

McCain aide Kimmie Lipscomb told reporters on Sept. 10 that an outdoor rally in Fairfax City, Virginia, drew 23,000 people, attributing the crowd estimate to a fire marshal.

Fairfax City Fire Marshal Andrew Wilson said his office did not supply that number to the campaign and could not confirm it. Wilson, in an interview, said the fire department does not monitor attendance at outdoor events.

The McCain campaign said 10,000 people showed up at the Consol Energy Arena in Washington, Pennsylvania, home of the Washington Wild Things baseball team.

The campaign attributed that estimate, and several that followed, to U.S. Secret Service figures, based on the number of people who passed through magnetometers.

``We didn't provide any numbers to the campaign,'' said Malcolm Wiley, a spokesman for the U.S. Secret Service.

I guess John McCain subscribes the the belief that if you "Tell a lie often enough, loud enough, and long enough and people will believe you." It has been the foundation to more than one government, but I hope we are a little better than that.

It Is Going To Be A Nasty Race

It was clear early on that the Democratic Party's choice for president would provide plenty of red herrings for the slimy wing of the republican party to use in silly false attacks. They have attacked him for his name, his mixed racial parentage and made up issues about his faith.

This is standard operating procedure for the Republicans but Obama's fit so perfectly into the prejudices of this segment of the party that you knew that the number of attacks and their transparent, crude and racist nature would create a vile stream of hate that will continue to taint our nation as long as Obama is a national figure.

It was also obvious that, in time, the McCain camp would have to embrace this type of attack. His camp lacks the enthusiasm, ideas or energy that is present in the Obama camp. He can not run on his agenda, for it is just a continuation of the Bush Administration and Republican Party agenda that has been rejected by the majority of people of this nation. So it was clear that the only path left is to attack Obama on non-issues and it is safe to assume that these attacks will be only slight less disgusting that that of the likes of Sen. Bryant (R-Anderson S.C.).

I am just surprised that it happened so early. I have to admit the Obama camp has responded well.

“John McCain is an honorable man who is running an increasingly dishonorable campaign. Senator McCain knows full well that Senator Obama strongly supports and honors our troops, which is what makes this attack so disingenuous. Senator Obama was honored to meet with our men and women in uniform in Iraq and Afghanistan this week and has visited wounded soldiers at Walter Reed numerous times. This politicization of our soldiers is exactly what Senator Obama sought to avoid, and it's not worthy of Senator McCain or the 'civil' campaign he claimed he would run,”

With Rove now working with McCain, we can expect a lot more of these attacks based on lies.

If You Are Going To Lie

At least do it well.

After the republicans spent a little over a week lying about China drilling for oil off the Florida coast, and after finally being called on it, the Republicans have come up with a new lie; That drilling offshore is safe since Hurricane Katrina didn't cause any oil spills.

Well this is even easier to disprove that the China lie. There were media assessments and reports about the spill damage and there were government funded reports outlining the damage. There was a lot of evidence that oil spills as a result of the Hurricanes were a major issue.

It was a bad lie and it was a sloppy lie.

But the bought and paid for Republican politicians act as spokespersons for the oil industry and tell these easily debunked lies. And more amazingly, the media doesn't even challenge them, and lets them continue to tell these lies for weeks.

Why A Lie A Day

I have been asked in emails,more than a few times, why I named this blog "A Lie A Day". I tell them full full explanation can be found in the third definition; The Primary tool of politics used by Republicans. A few of those on the right have challenged me on this, stating that my inference that Republicans were serial liars was unfair.

I was driven to blogging during the 2004 election because it seemed to me that every day a new lie was being promoted as fact by someone on the right. During the last four years the Bush administration has furthered the impression that lies are standard issue tools of Republicans. They have use lies as their primary, often only, tool of statecraft. They lie to our allies, they lie to the congress and the lie to us, about just about everything.

And early indications from the McCain camp make it clear that this is another Bush policy that McCain has every intention of continuing. Today one of McCains top adviser told a huge lie about Obama and his tax policy.

It is nothing new, just standard Republican behavior. The fact that the media doesn't challenge these lies is also not new. One would hope after their disastrous performance in the run up to the Iraq war, they would have learned better, but they are still more like tape recorders than real investigators.

Just More Evidence - Bush Lies

I know, this is no surprise to any thinking individual. It has been clear since the Brooks Brothers Riot that far to many republicans are eager to lie, cheat and steal to get the power they want.

For those few who still think that the President is a man of such virtue that he is incapable of telling a lie, lets consider the Iran NIE and the last few months.

For over a year the Bush administration has been pounding on the war drums. Iran could have a nuclear weapon any day, they are working overtime, at this very moment, to build a nuclear weapon to destroy our nation. These cries were echoed at what appeared at hourly intervals by members of the Bush administration and elected Republican enablers in the House and Senate.

Now it has become clear the President has known for months that Iran has discontinued any weapons development programs it had. What is interesting is that this new has not stopped him, or other members of the administration, from repeating their claims (for months) about Iran, this despite knowing they were lies.

And when the truth comes out, what does our President do?

Of course, he lies.

On Tuesday, President Bush said he was never forewarned by the intelligence community that Iran had suspended its nuclear weapons program in 2003:

In August, I think it was John — Mike McConnell came in and said, We have some new information. He didn’t tell me what the information was.

Now the White House is revealing that wasn’t true. In fact, Bush did know what the information was. CNN reports:

President Bush was told in August that Iran’s nuclear weapons program ‘may be suspended,’ the White House said Wednesday, which seemingly contradicts the account of the meeting given by Bush Tuesday.”

Is Anyone Suprised

Bush Drove Drunk, Gonzales helped to hide that fact.

Questions about Gonzales's willingness to shade the truth on Bush's behalf came to prominence in the 1996 episode in which Bush was excused from Texas jury duty in a drunken-driving case. Bush was then the state's governor, and Gonzales was his general counsel. If Bush had served, he probably would have had to disclose his own drunken-driving conviction in Maine two decades earlier.

His willingness to do almost anything to cover-up Bush's acts makes is stream of lies told to congress even more disturbing.
