Mires Withdraws

Anyone want to bet that part of the cover story for this withdraw will be the need to preserve executive privilege. The Senate, citing her lack of a record, has asked to view her White House work. Bush has already refused, and now Miers can use that to cover her departure.

This was well timed by the White House, a nice distraction from the current legal troubles that about everyone is facing.

Now the way is clear for Bush to nominate Pat Robertson (or another who thinks like him) for the court.

UPDATE

Miers letter (PFD Format)

She is citing executive privilege, the C.Y.A. is complete.

and Think Progress notes this points to a further weaked president.

UPDATE 2

Bush's Statement

It is clear that Senators would not be satisfied until they gained access to internal documents concerning advice provided during her tenure at the White House -- disclosures that would undermine a President's ability to receive candid counsel.

The final act in the little drama.
