In response to a reporter's question at the end of a cabinet meeting, Mr. Bush said he will not destroy the process of getting candid advice from top aides by disclosing those documents to the Senate. He said that will make it impossible for him and future presidents to make sound decisions, CBS News correspondent Mark Knoller reports.
Now moderate republicans have the cover they need, and the White House has the cover they need. Miers will be voted down or withdrawn due to a lack of available evidence of her positions and constitutional understanding. The White House is on firm ground with executive privilege, and the Senate is correct in demanding real information about her past work.
A perfect hide / hide (as opposed to win / win)

Slick theory and it may work
This very well may work, but what happens next? W nominates a total right wing hardliner. The troubled GOP rallies around him and unites for the fight for confirmation. Dems appear weak, GOP gains momentum for Bush domestic agenda and Nov '06. uggh.
