The Clock Is Ticking

and today Stephen Hawking and Sir Martin Rees stood up and demanded that the world take notice.

"As we stand at the brink of a second nuclear age and a period of unprecedented climate change, scientists have a special responsibility once again to inform the public and advise leaders about the perils that humanity faces.

"We foresee great perils if governments and society do not take action now to render nuclear weapons obsolete and prevent further climate change."

A one two punch in this revision of the clock. Not only does the nuclear threat appear to getting worse, but the reality that we are destroying the planet we live on is being noted.

Just as a mild correction, I serously doubt that Stephen Hawking stood up, given that he has not stood up in his lifetime thus far and it is unclear that his disorder (cerebral palsey) will be cured within his lifetime. However, even sitting down, he has more moral authority than the whole collection of boors and morons currently occuping the Executive Branch of the U.S. government, so I suppose you may be excused for your moment of hyperbole.

Who cares???? I am old enough that I feel pretty safe that I will live out my life naturally. I don't have any children, and the younger people who do have children don't care either or they would not breed.

The human is on a suicide march, with the mentality of lemmings. My generation will be the last one to survive to old age, and the rest are not smart enough to survive their own stupidity.

Let them all go watch American Idle and talk on their cell phones or visit MySpace. Those things are more important to them then their future....so who cares?
