Delta and Northwest

How can anyone in their right mind think that the merger of two of the larger airlines in the US can in any way be a benefit to the American consumer?

Further consolidation of an already over consolidated and incredibility poorly preforming industry makes no sense, so I am sure it will be amazingly popular in both Wall Street and DC.

It will be amazingly popular on Wall Street until the herd hears the first inkling of underperformance at which point they'll make a run on another investment bank and the Fed will step in to commit another $30 billion of taxpayer money at which point our "capitalist" government will have inadvertently socialized both investing and air travel.

This will of course pass without any hard looks or "consumer advocate" groups fighting it or members of congress getting their panties in a bunch over it. Meanwhile, 390 days have passed since two luxury entertainment companies filed an application with the FCC to merge two struggling sat. radio entities. To say our leaders' priorities are ass-backwards would be the understatement of the century.

Well, let the service cutbacks and lays offs begin, the process has started and it is a very safe bet no one will move to stop it.
