How Can Anyone Know?

Our dear leader is again making claims that are beyond any verification. Today, on the 5th anniversary of our attacking Iraq, he has decided that 'it' was worth it.

Since we have no clue how this war will end, since the invasions cost is almost incalculable at this point but well into the hundreds of trillions of dollars and since making any type of real analysis of the success of any venture means having a firm grasp of what the cost and the benefit are, how can he, in good conscience, make this claim?

We are not anywhere close to knowing the end result of his foolishness and to pretend otherwise is grossly dishonest.

There is an old saying that I have tried to use to guide my actions; "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt." I guess our president has never heard it.

The fallacy of Bush's arguments for the war in Iraq can be summed up in one latin phrase: "post hac ergo procter hac." Interestingly, the newest justification propounded by the administration, that the war is good for the world economy, is exactly the fear that those on the far left had about the war from the start- that it was all about oil.

The truth is that it is highly unlikely that we will ever know the true reasons for going to war in Iraq. Perhaps the neocon, Michael Ledeen, summed up the administration's reasons best: "Every now and then the United States has to pick up a crappy little country and throw it against the wall just to prove we are serious." Of course many of us thought that country was Afghanistan, but perhaps in the post 9/11 vigor of the U.S. government, one "crappy little country" simply was not enough.

Blue, if you are even trying to insinuate that the Bush administrations policy on Iraq have not been clear cut and well defined from the beginning I just say - How dare you sir/madam!

Some brief highlights including of course...

"we are not going to be nation building"

to "we are going to find WMD and stop to production of them"

to "Oil from Iraq will pay for all of this"

to "It has never been about oil, we are promoting freedom"

to "So what if there was no WMD we are going there to nation build a new democracy"

to " (we have no defined goal) Stay the Course"

to "We were never 'stay the course'"

to "Start the Surge"

to "Stay the Surge"

to "Our State Dept. hasn't come up with a definable, but if you woud rally around Gen. Patraeus for a moment I'd sure appreciate it."

to ???

I personally can't wait for the "we were never stay the surge" message to come out.
