Spitzer

I have to agree with John Cole at Balloon Juice.

Who the hell does he think he is? Like Tim, I think prostitution should be legal, but really, who does this jackass think he is? He has spent his career aggressively prosecuting individuals, then holding elaborate press conferences in which he pompously attempts to seek not only justice, but to shame people, humiliate them and ruin them.

And now, we find out that he is no better. In other words, just another pompous moralizing hypocrite who thinks everyone else should live by rules he can’t, only this time he has a (D) after his name instead of an R.

With me it is not the act, but the hypocrisy involved in the act. I do not care what you do and who you do it with, as long as consenting adults are involved. But, preaching one thing, and doing another is something I am loath to forgive.

This whole Spitzer scandal is very sad indeed. I could personally care less about the prostitution aspect. The hypocrisy aspect doesn't bother me either. But if this guy was using his office, state money, and official resources to line up his hookers in DC, then he should walk the plank.

If people like Spitzer, Vitter, and Craig can get elected, I guess that gives us regular people with no skeletons in our closet a bit of hope.

I can't wait for the "I'm a sex addict and I want to now help others cope with this hidden scourge in our society" tour.

Well. he is done, it is a shame Craig and Vitter lacked the sense of shame that Spitzer has, and have refused to go away.

John, indeedy. I said it about Vitter and I'll say the same about Spitzer. Both are guys who made a living (politically) by holding up their high morals and staring down their noses at those who didn't have such. I don't grant Spitzer much of anything, but he did leave and good riddens. Vitter on the other hand did not have the 'moral decency' (which he expects and wants to legislate for everyone else) to leave office. No passes for (D's) or (R's) just good riddens and get out of office.
