Another Reason Why

I have grown to loath the GOP.

Aside from their pervasive corruption, their 'leave no millionaire behind' attitude on domestic tax policy and their chicken-hawk war efforts, their obsession with what people do in their bedroom is both un-American and unhealthy.

The South Carolina bill, proposed by Republican Rep. Ralph Davenport, would make it a felony to sell devices used primarily for sexual stimulation and allow law enforcement to seize sex toys from raided businesses.

"That would be the most terrible thing in the world," said Ms. Gillespie, an employee the Anderson shop. "That is just flabbergasting to me. We are supposed to be in a free country, and we're supposed to be adults who can decide what want to do and don't want to do in the privacy of our own homes."

There seems to be a segment of the Republican party who is obsessed with the thought that someone, somewhere, is having sex for reasons other that procreation, and must be stopped.

wow, I just blogged on this too. I also just wrote to Davenport:

I read online where Representative Ralph Davenport is attempting to make sale and possession of sex toys illegal in South Carolina.

The Republican party has maintained an electoral stance of keeping 'big government' out of people's private lives. With the exceptions of tapping our phones, monitoring our emails, deciding who can and cannot have birth control, attempting to override the wishes of terminally ill people (Schiavo), legislating whom one can or cannot marry, stripping terminally ill people of the right to a bit of marijuana for medical use, and now dictating what marital aids we can use, you have all done a heck of a job staying out of our private lives.

Here's a humble suggestion. Rather than focus on such narrow issues as sex toys, why don't you do what you can to keep our young people here instead of sending them to the middle east to kill, be killed or come home maimed. I'd rather have them whole, healthy and playing with their sex toys in South Carolina. Also, how about if you work to be sure these same young people have affordable health care, learn to read beyond the 4th grade level, and have some kind of future to look forward to that includes jobs with living wages. I should think these kinds of issues would keep you busy enough but if that is not the case we can always talk about making college affordable for all the young people who wish to go.

this guy must be insecure about his wife and how he knows he doesn't get the job done.
