Doing The Right Thing

Last night the House Democrats voted 99 to 58 to act to remove William Jefferson (D-La) from his position on the Ways and Means Committee while the investigation into how $90,000.00 ended up in his freezer is resolved (along with a number of other equally interesting charges).

For this to become official the whole house would have to vote to approve the action, or Jefferson could offer to step aside while the investigation continues.

It is refreshing to see one party has the courage to do the right thing, it is a shame that the majority party (republicans) appear to lack the same sense of morality when dealing with their own (Cunningham, DeLay, Ney, Frist and others).

It wasn't courage, it was CYA. If they were really courageous, they would be calling for him to resign like Delay did.

The Dem's have egg on their faces. They have been pointing at the Rep's and the "culture of corruption". They forgot about the three fingers pointing back at them. Unfortunately for them, corruption is no respector of the which side of the isle one sits. Money, power, and greed affect you whether there is a D or an R behind your name.

Sorry Cal

DeLay only resigned AFTER his indictment, and no one in the Republican party demanded he do it (it was never even voted on in caucus, in fact the never even striped him of the proveleges of his office as a house leader, even after his indictment, despite the house rules that mandated it). He resigned because his polling indicated a 10 -15 point loss in the fall election.

So, repubs have 6 or 7 men implicated in investigations (or more depending on how you want to count), and NOT ONE are effected in any way. Dems has ONE, and the strip him of his committee chair (prior to indictment), and you claim there is no difference...... yea right
