Has anyone running for President ever given people fewer reasons to vote for them than John McCain?
He has given us countless number of reasons to vote against Obama (at least a never ending stream of half truths, smears and attacks), but in the last one to two months I do not remember seeing his camp giving a single reason why he should be president.

"Reality has a Well-Known Liberal Bias."
This little quip or the Mythbuster, Adam Savage's, "I reject your reality and substitute my own" seem to sum up both McCain's run for president, and the right wing mentality that had gripped out nation for the last 8 years.
When confronted with data, if it didn't fit their world view, they rejected it. This was true from war planning, scientific funding, climate issues, tax policy, and about anything else.
Today on Meet the Press we see two very fine examples of this denial in action. First we hear McCain denounce Bush and his policies, again declaring that "I (McCain) am not Bush". This bold statement leaves one to ask; If he is not Bush, and if Bush's policies are so bad, why did he support them over 90% of the time. Why did the self declared 'Maverick' not fight against them, push back and work to block or change them? And more importantly, now that the election is upon us, if Bush's policies are so bad, why does McCain embrace and want to extend so many of them?
The Bush economy is a disaster, this is not questioned by anyone. The cornerstone of Buhs's economic policy are most clearly expressed by 2 key initiatives, tax cuts for the richest Americans funded by increasing our debt, and removal of corporate regulation.
These are also key points in McCain's plan. McCain wants to continue the Bush tax cuts for the hyper rich, and in the last 48 hours has called for a reduction in government regulation of industry (This worked so well on Wall Street, I can see what he liked the idea). My question to McCain is, if you are different from Bush, why are your policies so alike.
The second moment of McCain denying reality was when he was asked about the polling covering both the election overall and the various issues people are interested in. In every area Obama was favored, often by massive margins. When confronted by the facts of what the polls were saying, McCain did not try to modify his message, did not try to argue that despite these results, his ideas were unpopular but right, he tried to deny the validity of the polls, except for the single national election poll showing him just a few points down.
To fix any problem the first thing that you have to do is be able to understand it. If you refuse to accept reality and insist on trying to substitute your own, the problem will not get solved and very likely will simply get worse.
This has been the operational pattern we have seen the last 8 years, can we afford 4-8 more years of willful ignorance.

Putting Personal Gain First
Wow, if Mark Sanford had tried to pull the stunts that Sarah Palin has tried as the Governor of Alaska, he would have been drawn and quartered.
Lets see, she charged the state for family travel, and then after the fact 'corrected' the paper work to cover her rear end. And, by the way, what kind of official state business can a 2nd grader do?
While it appears that see may not have broken a single state law, it does bring me to question both her judgement and ethics. Why should the people of Alaska pay to have her kids go see her father race, or visit New York. There is nothing wrong with having her kids travel with her, but she, not the tax-payers would foot the bill.
Just another reason why the selection of Palin is damning to McCain's claim that she was a well thought out and completely reasonable selection as a running mate. For as bad as Palin's judgment appears to be, McCain's appears even worse.

Gov. Sarah Palin charged the state for her children to travel with her, including to events where they were not invited, and later amended expense reports to specify that they were on official business.
Lets see, she charged the state for family travel, and then after the fact 'corrected' the paper work to cover her rear end. And, by the way, what kind of official state business can a 2nd grader do?
The charges included costs for hotel and commercial flights for three daughters to join Palin to watch their father in a snowmobile race, and a trip to New York, where the governor attended a five-hour conference and stayed with 17-year-old Bristol for five days and four nights in a luxury hotel.
In all, Palin has charged the state $21,012 for her three daughters' 64 one-way and 12 round-trip commercial flights since she took office in December 2006. She also has charged the state for hotel rooms for the girls.
While it appears that see may not have broken a single state law, it does bring me to question both her judgement and ethics. Debate Review
McCain came out strong and aggressive. He seem to have a better command of the facts than he has has in the past, at least early on, and stayed on the attack. While he clearly lost his edge midway through, and his mannerisms became annoying, this was his best performance.
Despite this Obama 'won' easily. Snap polls taken over night and the focus groups sponsored by the networks all give the 4th debate, like the previous three, to the Democratic candidate.
2 1/2 weeks to go and Obama is clearly in the drivers seat. This means that the slime factory that is what John McCain's camp has become will kick up the nasty another couple of notches.

Palin Report : She Is Guilty
and I am surprised.
No, not surprised that she is guilty (that was obvious) but surprised that the damning report ever saw the light of day.
The committee that approved this reports release had 5 Republicans for every 2 Democrats and while a couple of the Republicans may have had political motivations for the release, some of those who voted to release this had to be motivated by simple integrity. That is refreshing and a bit surprising.
Of course, the Palin/McCain camp's first step was to declare the report (like the joke report the campaign released earlier) exonerated her.
Interesting argument, except that what not what she was charged with. Yes, she had authority to fire Monegan, but she did not have the authority to fire Wooten and her efforts at that are where the violations came from. It is very much like Nixon's Saturday Night Massacre, where the use of executive power was abused to achieve a goal not allowed.
The report is clear and Palin is the loser in this little political drama. The big loser however, is McCain. What does the selection of Palin as his running mate say about his executive capacity?
How can anyone with a straight face claim that Palin was properly vetted. Aside from her Nixonesque behavior toward personal enemies that should have struck her from consideration at once, Palin is a collection of baggage and bad ideas that should never have been considered viable for a national office.
To start off, simply put, she is ignorant. She is anti-intellectual. It is clear that she works at being uninformed. She is against sex education, arguing that it is the parents responsibility, then her 16 year old daughter turns up pregnant. What does that say about her following her own pronouncements? She has sat through sermons where a guest argued that the Jews were responsible for terrorism in Israel because they had not accepted Jesus. At another service, she goes forward to get a personal blessing from a witch hunter (both of these events happened this summer). She believes that the earth is only 6,000 years old and the Cain and Able lived among T-Rex and Triceratops. She is anti-science (I suspect because she can not understand it) and an end-timer.
How John McCain found any of this acceptable is unfathomable. It is a clear indicator that her selection was not well thought out and there was no real investigation of the person he selected to replace him in the case of emergency. This incredibly poor choice is a clear indicator of what a McCain presidency would be like.

No, not surprised that she is guilty (that was obvious) but surprised that the damning report ever saw the light of day.
Investigator Stephen Branchflower, in a report to a bipartisan panel that looked into the matter, found Palin in violation of a state ethics law that prohibits public officials from using their office for personal gain.
The committee that approved this reports release had 5 Republicans for every 2 Democrats and while a couple of the Republicans may have had political motivations for the release, some of those who voted to release this had to be motivated by simple integrity. Of course, the Palin/McCain camp's first step was to declare the report (like the joke report the campaign released earlier) exonerated her.
Gov. Sarah Palin's communications director says investigator Steve Branchflower's report vindicates the governor with a finding that she "acted within her constitutional authority" to remove executive employees who serve at her pleasure.

McCain is a Liar and a Coward
The McCain crew had been busy for for a couple of days trying to sell the absurd notion that Obama and Ayers are close friends and some how that then 8 year old Obama is in some way tied to Ayers actions during the Vietnamese War.
Then just prior to the debate McCain's people take this false flag distraction off of the table. They made it appear that they had decided that the didn't want to be quite that sleazy.
During the debate, McCain said nothing.
Now that Obama can not confront him directly, McCain starts up the lie again.
What a wimp, if he had any real conviction on this issue he would have brought it up during the debate face to face. No he waits till after the debate, and starts spreading his bull again.
A liar and a coward, not traits that many consider Presidential.

More Evidence; McCain Lies
Some recent history.
Just as we were seeing the initial public manifestation of our current economic meltdown John bravely declared that all is well. About 36-48 hours later he, in a obvious panic, declared he was suspending his campaign.
Only he never actually suspended anything.
Traditionally when a campaign is suspended the candidate stops making public appearance, call his surrogates in from media appearance, cancel interviews, and stop advertising. Well we have already seen that McCain continued to make public appearances, continued to do interviews, his talking heads were all over the news networks and we now have confirmation that his adds continued to be played.
More evidence, if you actually needed any, that John is a liar of monumental scale.

Where McCain's Champaign Is Taking Us
We had the chance to see how some of McCain's followers are responding to his rhetoric, it is less than appealing.
Well, it seems as McCain and Palin's lies and smears become more overt the reaction from his followers are becoming more racist and disgusting.
And that is not all, we are also hearing threats of violence. The followers of McCain and Palin are beginning to look like out of control lynch mobs shouting for blood. In addition to the racial taunts at yesterdays events shouts of "kill him" and "terrorist" erupted when Obama is mentioned.
Palin's lies are assuring a degree of partisanship that has never before been seen in DC will exist there, no matter who wins.
But she is not the only one who is bringing the hate out. At a McCain event we got this:
As I said before, what a vile batch of people the republican ticket attracts, Racist, Liars, and want to be murderers.

Well, it seems as McCain and Palin's lies and smears become more overt the reaction from his followers are becoming more racist and disgusting.
Palin's routine attacks on the media have begun to spill into ugliness. In Clearwater, arriving reporters were greeted with shouts and taunts by the crowd of about 3,000. Palin then went on to blame Katie Couric's questions for her "less-than-successful interview with kinda mainstream media." At that, Palin supporters turned on reporters in the press area, waving thunder sticks and shouting abuse. Others hurled obscenities at a camera crew. One Palin supporter shouted a racial epithet at an African American sound man for a network and told him, "Sit down, boy."
And that is not all, we are also hearing threats of violence. The followers of McCain and Palin are beginning to look like out of control lynch mobs shouting for blood. In addition to the racial taunts at yesterdays events shouts of "kill him" and "terrorist" erupted when Obama is mentioned.
The reception had been better in Clearwater, where Palin, speaking to a sea of "Palin Power" and "Sarahcuda" T-shirts, tried to link Obama to the 1960s Weather Underground. "One of his earliest supporters is a man named Bill Ayers," she said. ("Boooo!" said the crowd.) "And, according to the New York Times, he was a domestic terrorist and part of a group that, quote, 'launched a campaign of bombings that would target the Pentagon and our U.S. Capitol,' " she continued. ("Boooo!" the crowd repeated.)
"Kill him!" proposed one man in the audience.
Palin also told those gathered that Obama doesn't like American soldiers. "He said that our troops in Afghanistan are just, quote, 'air-raiding villages and killing civilians,' " she said, drawing boos from a crowd that had not been told Obama was actually appealing for more troops in Afghanistan.
Palin's lies are assuring a degree of partisanship that has never before been seen in DC will exist there, no matter who wins.
But she is not the only one who is bringing the hate out. At a McCain event we got this:
after john McCain delivered the central question of his speech today -- "who is the real barack obama?" -- the first, and loudest, supporter seems to yell:
"terrorist!"
As I said before, what a vile batch of people the republican ticket attracts, Racist, Liars, and want to be murderers.

McCain Surrenders To Obama
On the issues at least.
With his numbers in the polls tanking, his choice as VP making a fool of herself anytime she is not in uber-friendly enviroments and the Republican economic model now proven to be useless, the McCain camp has called it quits.
No, I am not talking about his retreat in Michigan,
but his champaigns decison to retreat from the issues and turn to lies smears and distortion for the rest of the election season: McCains camp has decided to go negitive and go negative hard.
The plan involved more than just advertising. This attack by lie will involve everyone. Palin was in on this early with gross distortions of Obama's realtionship with Professor Bill Ayers of the University of Chicago.
This is silly on it's surface, but becomes absurd when you look into the background of who is attacking. Palin is attacking Obama for occasional contact with a person who was a radical 40+ years ago while she sleeps with a person untill a couple of years ago subscribed to viltrolic anti-American rherotic.
As you move further down the feeding chain of the McCain camp you see even all the way down to the county level they are ready willing and able to use the traditionl Republican tools of racism and lies to attack Obama.
This lying Ass is treasurer of the Buchanan County Republican Party and a memner of McCain's Virginia leadership team. After this I suspect a promotion will be in the works.
Another typical Republican action; When the facts are working against you lie and attack about a false issue and with 4 weeks to go, we all know it is going to get much much uglier.

No, I am not talking about his retreat in Michigan,
"I don't know what McCain was thinking," fumed Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, a leading state Republican. "He's a general who left the battlefield in the middle of the fight.
"I'm disappointed in his behavior; he's thrown a lot of good Republican candidates under the bus."
but his champaigns decison to retreat from the issues and turn to lies smears and distortion for the rest of the election season: McCains camp has decided to go negitive and go negative hard.
The McCain campaign has now shifted virtually 100 percent of his national ad spending into negative ads attacking Obama, a detailed breakdown of his ad buys reveals.
By contrast, the Obama campaign is devoting less than half of its overall ad spending to ads attacking McCain. More than half of its spending is going to a spot that doesn't once mention his foe.
The plan involved more than just advertising. This attack by lie will involve everyone. Palin was in on this early with gross distortions of Obama's realtionship with Professor Bill Ayers of the University of Chicago.
the two men do not appear to have been close. Nor has Mr. Obama ever expressed sympathy for the radical views and actions of Mr. Ayers.”

"The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government," Vogler said in the interview, in which he talked extensively about his desire for Alaskan secession, the key goal of the AIP.
"And I won't be buried under their damn flag,"
As you move further down the feeding chain of the McCain camp you see even all the way down to the county level they are ready willing and able to use the traditionl Republican tools of racism and lies to attack Obama.
A local newspaper columnist, in a spoof of Obama’s platform, wrote in one recent piece that the Democrat would hire the rapper Ludacris to paint the White House black (a reference to a pro-Obama song by Ludacris), and divert more foreign aid to Africa so "the Obama family there can skim enough to allow them to free their goats and live the American Dream."

McCain: Is It Dementia, or Something Else?
At first this was a little funny, McCain lost on stage
Another McCain Senior moment but nothing new, but then I saw the still of some rather disturbing facial ticks.
This man needs to fully open his medical records, at least those from that last 10-20 years. It looks to me like McCain may not be healthy enough to serve a full term.

When Going On A Job Interview

taking a parent along is not considered a good idea. In fact, it is considered by most to be a sure path to continued unemployment.
You have to wonder if anyone in the McCain camp realized how awful it looked to have the person who they think should be the vice president having to be chaperoned by a protector.

Yet Another 'Senior' Moment For McCain
While making excuses for the failed bail out vote he had this to say:
It's Obama's fault, but, no one is to blame?
Has his dementia gotten so bad that he can not remember what he just said?

John McCain - A History of Fighting Regulation
And getting the American Taxpayer to pay for his mistakes
Maybe McCain Should Have Stayed In Hiding
This was the debate that John McCain needed to win, and win big. The theme was his turf, terror, war and international affairs, and he had worked hard to project himself as vastly more qualified that Obama.
But Obama was more that up for the challenge.
The top tier bloggers on the left saw it as a draw or maybe a slight win for Obama. It is also clear that they were adjusting their pronouncements in an effort to correct for their own bias. After looking at the post debate polls, viewer feedback and pundit assessments, it is clear that the those bloggers were dead on. The pundits agree: It was a tie or a small win for Obama.
The trouble for McCain is, he needed a home run.
What is even better for Obama is the people saw this as an big Obama win. McCain was grumpy, unlikable and refused to make eye contact. Obama was open, friendly and able to communicate his ideas.
In the end it was another bad day, in a long series of bad days for McCain.

McCain and the US Economy
yesterday I said.
God help us if he (McCain) actually does get involved, his efforts have so far contributed to the Savings and Loan bailouts 15-20 years ago and this mess. Given the access, who knows what else he could screw up.
Well a few months ago a Romney supporter gave us this to consider
and check out just how serious McCain is about learning about the economy:
The plan in question is all of 3 (yest three)pages long, it would have taken him less than 2 minutes to read it.
What a posturing fool this man has become.
But for a while we appear to be safe since a deal has been made before McCain could actually get to DC to mess it up.

ANCHOR: As for the massive Wall Street bailout McCain insists it have...
JSM: Oversight that is effective and transparent. We need people like Warren Buffet and Mike Bloomberg and Mitt Romney to have an oversight of this. We can’t put that responsibility in the hands of one person.
ANCHOR: The crunch question. Would you vote for it as it’s presently constructed?
JSM: I have not had a chance to see it in writing so I have to examine that.

McCain Plans To Join Palin In Hiding
John McCain has announced his intention to suspend his campaign and wants to skip Friday's debate due to the economic crisis.
He says he is headed to DC to address this emergency.
The mind boggles.
So McCain, who made the foolish claim that the economy is sound just last week; McCain, who admitted he didn't understand economics; McCain who was a leader in the fight to deregulate banking, a key factor in this failure; John McCain who has missed over 80% of the votes in Congress this year, is headed to DC to save us (God help us if he actually does get involved, his efforts have so far contributed to the Savings and Loan bailouts 15-20 years ago and this mess. Given the access, who knows what else he could screw up.).
Or could it be that:
McCain doesn't want to deal with the fact that the floor has fallen out of his poll numbers; His campaign manager was, until last month, basically on the payroll of fannie may and freddie mac the failed loan companies (how can you clean up DC when you are run by big time DC insiders?); McCain wants to avoid more public misstatements by himself of by his VP choice who is calling for another Great Depression and war with Russia.
My bet is he is desperate to change the subject and is afraid of any debate that will focus on economic issues.
McCain is simply scared and wants to hide, not real presidential is it.

I love this line from Ben Smith:

UPDATE
I love this line from Ben Smith:
McCain suspends his campaign, and asks to postpone Friday's debate, to address the financial crisis.
Both candidates have been marginal players; McCain, though, seems to have the potential to make himself a major one, and his move is a mark, most of all, that he doesn't like the way this campaign is going.
But in terms of the timing of this move: The only thing that's changed in the last 48 hours is the public polling.
Exactly

McCain, Led By Lobbyist
And golden parachute millionaires.
Yet he denounces both. This is a amazing amount of hypocrisy, even by the standards of the modern political landscape.
John McCain has been forced to preach on the economy, and he is been trying to wrap himself up as the reform candidate. He will shake up DC and force reform on the lobbyist. Yet his campaign manager, his number one hire, the closest paid aid he has on his staff, a man destined to have 24/7/365 access to the Oval Office should McCain be elected president made millions running Fanny May and Freddy Mac's lobbying efforts to prevent regulation of their efforts.
In addition John has railed against executive compensation, stock options, bonuses and the golden parachutes that so many of them get when they fail. The only real problem is, another one of his top advisers got a very nice parting gift from her firm as they let her (and 20,000 other workers) go. Now McCain is left having to denounce the action while at the same time defending the greed of his advisers (an adviser who has also been silenced by the campaign for stating the obvious about his VP choice).
The McCain clown car of a campaigh is amazing; They can't open their mouths without lying, they ignore obvious facts and they are unable to admit that they are ever wrong.
No wonder John has voted with George Bush so often, they think alike.

Senator John McCain’s campaign manager was paid more than $30,000 a month for five years as president of an advocacy group set up by the mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to defend them against stricter regulations, current and former officials say.
Mr. McCain, the Republican candidate for president, has recently begun campaigning as a critic of the two companies and the lobbying army that helped them evade greater regulation as they began buying riskier mortgages with implicit federal backing. He and his Democratic rival, Senator Barack Obama, have donors and advisers who are tied to the companies.
Incensed by the advertisements, several current and former executives of the companies came forward to discuss the role that Rick Davis, Mr. McCain’s campaign manager and longtime adviser, played in helping Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac beat back regulatory challenges when he served as president of their advocacy group, the Homeownership Alliance, formed in the summer of 2000. Some who came forward were Democrats, but Republicans, speaking on the condition of anonymity, confirmed their descriptions

McCain Is At Fault For The Economic Meltdown
He also admits he wants to do what he did to bakning for your medical insurance.
And he also wanted to give the responsibility for safeguarding your Social Security to Lehman Brothers and the rest of the Wall Street gang that we are now having to bail out.
He is a man filled with ideas.

Opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition, as we have done over the last decade in banking, would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by the worst excesses of state-based regulation.
And he also wanted to give the responsibility for safeguarding your Social Security to Lehman Brothers and the rest of the Wall Street gang that we are now having to bail out.
He is a man filled with ideas.
