what is interesting is what the Constitution says.
by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for.
Advise and Consent is required, not just a simple up or down vote.
Advise and Consent is a higher much standard than a simple vote, and proper for lifetime appointments. Lets pray that at least 51 of our Senators have the wisdom to understand this.

I don't hold out much hope for the wisdom of senators.

I know you are right, but a man can dream.
