Here we go, Let the Culture War Begin Anew

Another court has ruled against the 2 little words added to the pledge in the 50's. Let the wailing and moaning from the right begin. But they sould consider that those two little words make the pledge a clear state endorsement of faith, and that being clearly against the establishment clause.

In the end, if we remain true to the intentions of the founders of this nation, the regular use of this version of the pledge should end. The fact that these words were added as a political stunt decades after the pledge was first presented, just make this whole discussion silly.

Simpley put, the pledge should not have been changed. There is no justification for the inclusion of proclamations of faith, in something proclaim fidelity to a secular state. Well, this should at least pump fundraising for the right wing, I am sure the letters pleading for money are en-route as we speak.

For those who are interested, the Green Knight has a breakdown of the evolution of the pledge.

It's so nice to see someone else in South Carolina who recognizes the importance of the separation of church and state.

i think both of you are just being plain stupid, religion is what guides any country or society forward,as they is the underlying conviction to do what is right.Saying that the state remain secular is givin the state a blank check to do whatever it wants, hey lets take over IRAQ who cares whether its right or wrong! We have no conscience to think about

The state should never make a person fel compelled to make a vow of religious faith, and this is exactly what is happening.

In addition, most of out greatest thinking founding fathers were not christians they were diest. They saw a 'natural god' who created the universe not the christian god. many pubically questioned or denounced christianity.

a good rulling, but jst more red meat for the right who cares nothing about the law of the land, the constitution or our history

I am Christian. I truly believe in the words “under God”. But I also believe in the freedom of choices. In the Bible, it is clear that God does not want Christianity forced on anyone. He will give you the option. So, I do not think children should be forced to say “The Pledge” as is. However, for a Judge to even consider issuing an injunction to halt the daily reciting of the pledge is just flat out ridiculous. If you do not want to say “under god” then don’t. But the pledge also promotes pride and unity in your country. It creates respect for this country and mankind through equality. I equate it with banning the singing of the National Anthem in public.
