The Assistance of FEMA has to have Killed Hundreds

Over at the Big Brass Blog they have a list, with the hyperlinks, of just some on the aid that FEMA refused or held up.

A tax-funded, state-of-the-art medical team

The USS Bataan

Wal-mart trucks full of ice and water

The water tankers from the US Forest Service

A specially trained and self-sufficient relief team from Chicago

A team of specially trained rescue workers from B.C., Canada

The Red Cross

Bush doesn't order search and rescue helicopters (via Kevin Drum)

A citizen flotilla of 500+ rescue boats

Amtrak's offer of trains to help evacuate victims

Experienced firefighters

The Coast Guard's fuel

Morticians

Electric generators

First responders urged not to respond

Total failure, but not a real surprise when you consider that the FEMA director was hired not for his ability, but because of his political support in the past.

Wal-mart trucks full of ice and water At least this one appears to have been debunked.

I am not so sure that has been de-bunked.

From the San Deigo Paper

state or local officials, FEMA asserted its authority and only made things worse, said Aaron Broussard, the president of Jefferson Parish, south of New Orleans. When Wal-Mart sent three trailer trucks loaded with water, FEMA officials turned them away, he said
