Two Stories of Little Boys in Harms Way

Having a little one just a year or two away from this age, these hits very close to home

One about one having, at the age of 6, to accept what should be unacceptable.

I know the little boy in this picture.

No, I don't know him personally. But he is roughly the same age as my small son. This boy is beautiful, innocent, vulnerable and probably very scared in this photo.

and one about a child who had to do the unimaginable, care for 6 others, all younger than him.

In the chaos that was Causeway Boulevard, this group of refugees stood out: a 6-year-old boy walking down the road, holding a 5-month-old, surrounded by five toddlers who followed him around as if he were their leader.

They were holding hands. Three of the children were about 2 years old, and one was wearing only diapers. A 3-year-old girl, who wore colorful barrettes on the ends of her braids, had her 14-month-old brother in tow. The 6-year-old spoke for all of them, and he told rescuers his name was Deamonte Love.

having a 5 year old, it's hard to imagine him taking on such responsibility at such a young age. but i guess it speaks to the human spirit of kindness and resolve.

which reminds me ... i can't wait until i get for the 100th time that email that explains away the failings of the government in this disaster on the "welfare state."

please.
