A Bad Day In The Philippines

There is a lot of general unrest, the president fears a coup, and has now declared a state of emergency.

Philippines President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo declared a state of emergency after security forces thwarted what they said was a plot to overthrow her.

Clashes erupted as riot police used water cannon to disperse thousands of protesters defying a ban on rallying at a shrine to the 1986 "people power" uprising that toppled dictator Ferdinand Marcos, The Associated Press reported.

This is real test for one of our Asian allies, and in an area where stability is a real concern. Islamic extremist exists in some areas of that nation, and instability will allow them more freedom to operate and expand.

Just another thing that we can't do much more than watch, wait and worry about.
