A Little Help Please

The Red Cross will need money, lots of money, to help the folks on the Gulf coast. In addition, the Episcopal Relief and Development Fund could use a little support. If you can help out please do.

Lynn at Big Fat Liberial reminds us of an important fact about why so many of those trapped by the hurricane were there.

But, you know, one third of the population of New Orleans lived below the poverty level. THEY HAD NO WAY TO LEAVE! THEY HAD NO OPTIONS!

Newsweek has a good piece on how and why Americans ought to aid those affected by Hurricane Katrina, it also look as looting, both acceptable and unacceptable.

we have an ethical obligation to help in a way that does not incur a great burden on us.

Again, a plea, go by the Episcopal Relief and Development Fund or the charity of you choice, and give what you are able.

The devastation is terrible. I echoed the same references to the Red Cross and Episcopal Relief and Development. We have people here in our motels who evacuated to escape Katrina's path. Some have no place in which to return. It's heartbreaking and beyond comprehension.

Do you really think New Orleans will be fit to inhabit anytime soon? All the oil, chemicals, e coli bacteria, and God knows what else. I don't see how they can not only drain the water but clean up such a contaminated site. New Orleans is going to be one of the worst environmental cleanups in history.
I just don't see people living there any more. I wouldn't want to. It will be interesting to see what the cancer rates are there over the next 50 years.
