LIE
1.A false statement deliberately presented as being true; a falsehood.
2.Something meant to deceive or give a wrong impression. 3. The Primary tool of politics used by Republicans.
One major reason the media will should not let it go is Bush claimed that he would investigate and fire the leaker at once.
Rove has professed in public interviews that he had nothing to do with the leak, and the leakers should be punished.
So, both the President, and the guilty person have denounced leakers, and claimed they should be punished, and it is clear that Rove was the leak.
as to you points.
Point 1 is abusrde
If I told a hired killer to kill John Doe's wife, I am still guilty of soliciting the murder. Rove outed her by giving the reporters (many more than one remember, he shipped out this leak) a target to ID>
Point 2 and 3 are tied.
The CIA has confirmed via back channels that V. Plame was covert. As I understand it, While she was not a full time 'field agent' her position was still covert. While most of the desk riders are not covert, a number are since their work may involve, at times, feild duties.
Again, as I remember, she was actually paid or listed as employed by a front company, nit the CIA, a clear sign of a covert standing.
This isn't an impeachable offense, unless Bush knew of this act and decided to allow it to happen, or assist in covering it up. Since you would have to have an high up insider become informent for this to be known, I don't see that happening.
As to Rove, it is clear he was the leak. He leaked this not to just one reporter, but to a number of them to try to dis-credit Wilson (who was right by the way). Even if he didn't name Plame, he made it clear who she was, by naming her spouse, it is the smae thing. Then he lied about it for the next two years.
The President swore that whoever did this would be fired and prosicuted. I doubt that will happen, just another sign of the slimey nature of the man.
