Terrifying Poll Result From Iraq

The telegraph is reporting that the British Ministry of Defense has results from a secreatly commissioned survay of the Iraqi population. The results are another indicator that our efforts there will fail.

Millions of Iraqis believe that suicide attacks against British troops are justified, a secret military poll commissioned by senior officers has revealed.

The poll, undertaken for the Ministry of Defence and seen by The Sunday Telegraph, shows that up to 65 per cent of Iraqi citizens support attacks and fewer than one per cent think Allied military involvement is helping to improve security in their country.

While this is focused on the British areas and concerns in the war, it must be remembered that in Iraq, the British are in the section of the country that are friendliest to the occupation.

Also of note

67 per cent of Iraqis feel less secure because of the occupation;

43 per cent of Iraqis believe conditions for peace and stability have worsened;

72 per cent do not have confidence in the multi-national forces.

The opinion poll, carried out in August, also debunks claims by both the US and British governments that the general well-being of the average Iraqi is improving in post-Saddam Iraq.

No wonder this was being kept secrete

Meanwhile in Iraq, the body count keep going up.

AND

Can anyone explain why it took the US a month to announce these deaths?

BAGHDAD, Oct. 22 -- Four U.S. contractors were killed last month when their convoy took a wrong turn, drove into a town north of Baghdad and was attacked by an angry mob, a senior U.S. military official said Saturday.

It is interesting how this event, and the poll results broke in the public on the same day.

hey, thanks for your doom-and-gloom depiction of Iraq... so are you actually rooting for things to go badly in Iraq, or does it just seem this way?

I would hope that soldiers lives would trump partisan considerations.

Amen Eric.

and in war you don't 'root' for anyone. You have to be objective and look at the facts without allowing your hopes or wishes to color your view.

when you start to 'root' you start to ignor facts that can be improtant when making decision.

Wag,

It sounds loike you are 'rooting' for the US. That lack of objectivity makes seeing the reality of the situation.

as to the lifes of the soldiers. I know how we can reduce US losses by 90%, and do some serious good.

Take half and move the to Afganistan, and finsish the work that mus tbe done there, and bring the rest home.

By doing that we do respect the lifes of your men and women by wasting more in a battle that even some in the US army say will last at least a decade, and many now whisper is lost.
