Saddams trial has been adjourned for 6 weeks so his defense can better prepare his case.
My question is, what case?
He is as guilty as any despot can be. We gave him to the Iraqis so they could kill him (an International Tribunal would not allow execution), so lets just get it done.

His trial should be under international control not local. but it matters not, he is guilty as hell.
Thing is, Saddam's soldiers killed fewer Iraqis during the average year of his reign than have been killed by Bush's soldiers during the average year of the American occupation of Iraq.
George W. Bush should be right up there sitting beside Saddam, in my opinion.

Badtux, I agree.
In a perfect world, Justice for Bush would come from the US. In time, with a change of leadership it still may happen.
Saddam should be tried by an International court. Iraq still doesn't have a functioning governemnt, so any result from this court is invalid.
But this is not about justice, since everyone knows he is guilty. This is about disposing of a leader that could hinder the plans of the US and the new Iraqi government.
That is why we aer using this basterdised patch togather judical system.
So we get what we want.
Saddam dead, and our hand not real bloody.
Well, we need to be creative about Saddam's punishment when he is found guilty; executing him would be too easy.
Jenifer, who is this "we"? Unless you are an Iraqi exile, Saddam has done nothing to you. While he was a terror to his people and his neighbors, Saddam Hussein never attacked America and the only Americans his soldiers ever fired at were our own soldiers invading his own country.
I strongly disagree that this is a case for an international tribunal. Saddam terrorized his own people and the neighboring countries of Iran and Kuwait. We (the United States) should butt out and let the folks that he actually hurt take care of his mangy behind.

I agree the US has no buisness in this mess.
Unfortunatly, is why this should be an international court.
The current court was established, trained, and initally operated under US control. US representitives hired, trained and directed the majotity of the memebers of the current legal system. Iraq still doesn't have a government in place to actually oversee a judicary.
In addition, as you mentioned, other nations do have legitimate complaints to file against Saddam. This can not be processed via the current judical system.
For those reasons this shoudl not be a faux trial under questionable authority, but a trial under international mandate, that doesn't include the US.
Unfortunatly, that would not lead to an execution, and that is what Iraq and the US need
