Operation Iron Fist, Day 2

Day two of operations in Sadah, and we get our update;

An Iraqi army captain said security forces had taken control of most of the city after searching house to house for fighters and weapons. The captain, who declined to give his name, estimated that 80 percent of Sadah had been searched by Sunday evening, turning up weapons but not large numbers of foreign fighters who are part of the insurgent network led by Jordanian Abu Musab Zarqawi.

"We think Zarqawi's group escaped before the assault because the U.S. forces were not engaged in heavy clashes," the captain said, describing exchanges between Iraqi and American troops with insurgents as "rather normal like the ones in Baghdad."

Going according to script. We should be able to withdraw by Wednesday, and the insurgents should be back in place for Friday's prayers.

Effective strategy, isn't it.
