God is Still Mad at Someone

When Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, we all heard some of the more unbalanced of the religious right telling us that she was God's wrath for the sin of New Orleans. (or America, or Aborion, or Homosexuality, just pick your favorite evil)

The hurricane was an act of God upon a sin-loving and rebellious nation. It's a warning--and a call to repent.

I did notice that Rita didn't receive the same recognition as a tool of Gods vengeance, but I am sure that was just a simple oversight of those who profess to speak for God.

The end of last week provides more evidence, if these spokespersons of God are to be believed, that God is still pissed off. He has used his power, in the form of an earthquake, to kill tens of thousands in South central Asia, and he used rain and floods to kill a few hundred more in central America.

On the other hand, it could be as simple as this .

The tragedy of human tragedy is that it is, in the end, inexplicable. Bad things happen, not because God is angry at humanity, but because we live in an imperfect world. Humans search for explanation sexual practices, religious beliefs, criminal behaviors, political choices in order to make sense out of the senseless. Yet it stays senseless nonetheless.
