Koreas To Combine Olympic Teams

A very interesting and promising announcement. North and South Korea have agreed to field a unified team in the Beijing Games.

North and South Korea have announced they will compete at the next Olympics as a single team for the first time.
South Korea Olympic Committee spokesman Baek Sung-il revealed that the first united team would take part in the 2006 Asian Games.

"We had discussed a single team since we made joint marches in international events six times," he said. "As our exchange in South and North Korea has been progressing, the mood was ripe for reaching an agreement."

Sports can serve as a pathway to diplomacy, and this is a very solid start to reducing tensions in the area.

We can reduce tensions in a region without war? Wow, what a concept.
