GOP Discipline Eroding

As Bush's approval ratings sink, the Republicans ability to march in lock step seems to be decaying.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- House Republican leaders abruptly called off a vote Thursday on a bill that would trim $50 billion in spending after moderate Republicans resisted cuts to a range of social programs, including Medicaid, student loans and food stamps.

While the leadership plan on another try in a week or so, many moderates know that to be seen as a fiend of Bush, DeLay, Blunt, or Frist, is to be seen as a puppet of the far right and to be touched by corruption.

At this point, with only 12 month till the 2006 elections, Bush, and the current Republican leadership appear to be lame ducks. The radical agenda appears to be dead, at least until the next election.
