Democracy Stagers Forward

Well it appears our grand experiment in Afghanistan may have hit a few bumps.

KABUL, Afghanistan, Oct. 2 - Election officials and observers said Sunday that with 80 percent of the ballots counted in Afghanistan's national and provincial elections, they had found significant incidents of fraud.

Whole districts have come under suspicion for ballot box stuffing and proxy voting, said Peter Erben, the chief of the United Nations-assisted Joint Election Management Board

Kinda scary that we would allow this kind of tin-pot third rate election theft to occur in a land that we should hope to show as a centerpiece of our plan of nation rebuilding.

Of course, maybe the locals were just inspired by some of the stunts in Florida 2000 and Ohio 2004.
