Interesting Combat In Baghdad Today

It appears that a top level Iraqi resistance leader has been captured.

The violence began around 2 a.m. and lasted until 6 a.m., police said. The U.S. military said the 30 to 40 casualties were the result of a 43-minute firefight.

According to the U.S. military, Iraqi forces "were immediately engaged by insurgents" when they entered the eastern Baghdad neighborhood.

No Iraqi or coalition forces were wounded or killed in the firefight, the military said.

What I noticed is that this leader has to have ties to the Mehdi army, a group controlled by Moqtada al-Sadr, a member of the government who is allied with the US in the fight against the insurgents (insurgents that he appears to, if not control, at least allows to operate in territory he controls).

In Iraq, the absurd is now the norm.
